Don’t miss the yearly events that happen in Henderson. Thanks to organizations like the Chamber, the Recreation Department and Heritage Park there is always something happening in Henderson.
Each year the Henderson Chamber of Commerce hosts a Home Show the last weekend in February as an opportunity for business from Henderson and the surrounding communities to advertise their products and services. Those in attendance can anticipate hourly door prizes, product and services discounts, introductions to new products and businesses, a Pancake Feed from 7:30 am – 9 am., lunch options from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m . and homemade ice cream from the HHCS Jr. Auxiliary.
The smorgasbord includes a variety of German foods as it was prepared by the pioneer mothers. The main ingredients were readily available to them since all could be preserved through drying and canning or were available to them as produce was secured daily such as cream, milk and eggs. They relied heavily on flour ground from the grain they raised. Meat was available at all times, butchered in the winter then it would be cured, smoked and hung in cellars for summer consumption. Much meat was also canned along with fruit and vegetables and stored in root cellars for year round use. Following the meal, the Heartland Senior High Band, Junior High Band and Jazz Band perform a concert.
The annual Henderson Easter Egg Hunt is put on by the Henderson Recreation Department each year on the Saturday of Easter weekend. The hunt is for ages 0-9 and begins at the swimming pool parking lot at 1 pm.
Farmers Market
Henderson is proud to offer a weekly Farmer’s Market during the months of June, July and August. The Farmer’s Market takes place on Tuesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. in the Henderson Downtown Park. Each week you can find fresh produce, baked goods, canned products and a meal that supports a local non-profit group.
Henderson boasts one of the best Community Wide Garage Sales each summer, which takes place on the second Saturday in June.
During the second weekend in July, Henderson takes time to celebrate the community and all of the residents that have a connection to the community during Henderson Community Days.
Come out to the Henderson Mennonite Heritage Park and enjoy a wide range of ethnic foods such as zwieback, new year’s cookies, raisin shnetya, and apple prieshka. Fresh waffles & cream sauce cooked on an outdoor wood stove with antique waffle irons will be available.
Take a step back in time enjoying apple cider making, outdoor oven bread baking, meat rendering, old fashioned laundry day, sewing & quilting demonstrations, rug braiding and rope, soap & butter making.
The Henderson Recreation Department hosts a free halloweenie roast each year on Halloween for trick-or-treaters and their parents before they go trunk or treating and trick or treating.
Each December the Henderson Business community hosts the Annual Henderson Spirit of Christmas as businesses roll out the red carpet to kick off the holiday season. During the event residents are encouraged to shop at local businesses for Christmas gifts, enter various drawings, attend business open houses and visit Santa.
