By: Kristian Perez

Henderson Nebraska is a small town full of great people and so many fun activities to enjoy with friends and family.

We may be from a small town but there is still plenty of events to go to throughout the year.

At the top of the list, is Heritage Park, founded in 1994 just 1.5 miles south of I-80. Come and learn all about the history of how Henderson came to be.

The Park features a century farmhouse, summer kitchen, granary outdoor oven, windmill, water tower, outhouses, chicken house, a restored barn that was originally built in 1911, and so much more.

If you want to know more about the heritage of Henderson Nebraska, feel free to go to Hendersonheritage.wordpress.com.

Henderson has a charming downtown full of the cutest little shops, including a diner that just opened. Sparrows Branch Café is a new addition to Henderson, they serve breakfast, Lunch, and dinner every day. Opened Monday-Thursday 6:30 AM-1 PM; Friday and Saturday 8 AM-8 PM.

Petal Pusher is a cute little shop downtown, they sell flowers, home décor, candles, and so much more.

Petal Pusher is a great place to buy housewarming gifts, flowers for your loved one, or even want to redecorate your house. There will be a Spring open house March 20th-24th 2023

Henderson has many great places to tour and shop, but they also have fun activities to enjoy with friends and family.

Swimming is definitely in the top 3! Henderson Aquatic Center is gearing up to open for a summer full of fun! You won’t want to miss it. If you want more information or are interested in buying tickets or a pass, feel free to contact City Hall with questions.

Next on the list is fishing! Who doesn’t love sitting by a beautiful lake in spring or summer to catch fish? Henderson’s Lakeview Park is open for anyone who has a fishing license to enjoy a day out by the lake!

If fishing is not your cup of tea, that’s okay! A few months ago, Henderson’s Lakeview Park introduced Disc Golf for the whole community to enjoy!

The new 9-hole course is located on the southeast corner of Lakeview Park. The course is free to play and can be played at any time.

Spring brings the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lakeview Park! Kids ages 0-9 are invited to meet at the swimming pool to be divided into different age groups.

Summer is right around the corner and that means so is Baseball! The kids start practicing in May, so if you are interested in your child joining one of the teams contact the City Hall for more information.

Everyone mark your calendars for the Farmers Market this summer!! Tuesdays June 6-Aug 8 from 5pm to 7pm! This year we will be adding sponsorships for art in the park, yard games, bounce houses and movie nights in the park!

Summer is never boring around Henderson, Garage Sale Day is at the top of the list of fun and will be held on June 3rd this year. As always, there will be good food and great conversations, and you never know, you may find something you never knew you needed.

If you grew up in a small town, then you are more than likely to have a deep love for Community Days! A whole weekend full of games, food, and friends! What’s not to love? this year Community days will be held on July 14-16.

Small towns thrive on small businesses! We love to support them so they can stay in business for years to come. Every year around February, Heartland Community Schools puts on an event called the Home Show. This is where all the surrounding businesses can set up a booth for the public to come and support them or find out more information about their business.

Summer is full of many fun events, but so is Fall. Trunk or Treat is an all-time favorite for the community of Henderson, around Halloween, the small businesses set up a stand downtown with candy and games for everyone to enjoy!

To end the year on a great note, Henderson has an event called The Spirit of Christmas, all the downtown businesses participate by opening their shops for customers to come by for coffee, tea, cider, Christmas cookies, and a great time.

Heartland Community Schools has several events throughout the year, one of the more popular ones is German Smorgasbord. Which is a band fundraiser to help support the Heartland Band. German food is served to the public and later in the evening, the Middle school/High school band puts on a concert.

The Heartland Band is well known for its performance in Harvest of Harmony. Which is an annual event that draws bands from all over Nebraska to compete against each other to win the overall place.

School Athletics are always fun to attend, from Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Track, and Golf. If you’re unable to attend in person, go to Striv where you can watch a live stream. For dates and times on when and where games will be visit the Heartland Community Schools website for more information.

Henderson Nebraska is a great place to live, and an even better place to make memories.
