HENDERSON FOODMART- Manager

JOB SUMMARY: To oversee the Grocery Store encompassing dry goods, bulk, refrigerated and frozen foods, bakery, general merchandise, and health and beauty products. Is accountable for ensuring maximum sales and bottom-line profitability through merchandising, category management, staff development, and close inventory and financial controls. Cover all other details as needed or assigned, plus any other duties as requested by the Board of Directors.

Purchasing

  • Evaluate and investigate new sources for products and suppliers.
  • Evaluate inventory by pulling item movement reports of best sellers and slow-movers and adjust assortment accordingly.
  • Ensure proper and accurate receiving by department staff according to security procedures.
  • Review invoices for pricing and discount accuracy; ensuring accurate separation of inventory categories and subcategories, facilitate price changes as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, run and analyze reports, keep current all paperwork required.
  • Identify inventory inaccuracies and other problems.
  • Oversee the processing of grocery special orders.
  • Order merchandise and maintain inventory control to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and maximize sales and turnover.
  • Ensure that shelves are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness.
  • Set stocking priorities for department staff, manage back stock areas stock items as needed.
  • Plan and maintain attractive, seasonally adjusted displays; assist in coordination and implementation of promotions.
  • Merchandise purposefully throughout departments and provide clear and customer friendly signage.
  • Do periodic merchandising and price comparisons with competitors.
  • Merchandising of the meat department.
  • Set pricing to meet margin goals; mark down items and discontinue items as needed to reduce losses.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling of department items; get new item information into the database.
  • Meet with sales reps and attend annual trade shows.
  • Assist in organization of demonstrations, special events, and participate in Customer Appreciation Day.
  • Ensure store is attractive and clean, and that all equipment is well maintained.
  • Be aware of changing customer needs, new products, sales trends, and effective selling techniques in order to serve our customers and maximize sales.
  • Be attentive to both school and community events as well as attend community functions.

Customer Service

  • Treat people fairly, courteously, and with respect.
  • Provide and model a high standard of prompt and friendly customer service storewide.
  • Ensure quick response to customer question, concerns, and comments.
  • Promote store resources to local organizations to expand sales opportunities.

Financial Performance

  • Controlling inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records and preparing daily records of transactions.
  • Attain and manage sales, margin, and labor goals.
  • Review departmental financial reports; take corrective action as needed.
  • Ensures compliance of employees with established security, sales, and record keeping procedures and practices.
  • Accountable for controllable expenses, cash management, merchandising, and loss prevention.

Personnel

  • Hire, train, supervise, and provide leadership for grocery store staff.
  • Mentor staff by providing adequate technical and customer relations training to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency.
  • Schedule hours for staff and assure adequate coverage for the store within payroll allocations.
  • Hold monthly staff meetings.
  • Model professionalism, flexibility, and a cooperative spirit.

Other Duties

  • Assist with other store operations as necessary and perform other tasks as assigned by the Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications

  • 3+ Years experience in a management role
  • Demonstrated ability to manage margins and inventory, meet budgets, and achieve profitability
  • Skills in accounts receivable
  • Commitment to superior customer service
  • Exhibited ability to work well in a team setting
  • Ability to supervise and lead staff — including hiring, training, evaluating, and directing
  • Proven understanding of and ability to uphold personnel and operational policies and procedures
  • Strong two-way verbal and written communications skills
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress
  • Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment
  • Ability to follow through on commitments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, use stairs, and be on feet for long periods
  • Computer literate, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and using email
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
